A healthy body hosts a healthy mind; and this is not just a saying!
To learn well we need to eat well and adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Most of us are not as healthy as we should or could be and good health begins with making informed choices about the way we live and what we eat.
Our Brainline students are currently on holiday and this might be the ideal time to start changing our habits.
Here are some easy tips to stay healthy:
- Drink enough water: it is recommended that you drink about 8 glasses of water per day.
- Eat vegetables: ensure that you include a variety of different vegetables in your diet.
- Don’t forget about fruits: fruits contain loads of vitamins and minerals.
- Make sure that you eat enough protein: fish, poultry, nuts and beans are the best choices.
- Eat three meals with snacks: eating every 4 – 5 hours ensures that you have enough energy.
- Increase your activity levels: start an activity that you like that will get you moving. Weather it is daily walks, runs or riding a bike.
- Socialise with friends: during the lockdown you can use technology to keep in touch
- Make sure that you sleep enough: Avoid bright lights before sleep; this means avoiding screen time.
- Think positive thoughts: be with people who bring out the best in you and who support you during difficult times!
Teaching younger kids to eat healthily can often be tricky. I suggest talking to your kids about the food they eat, why it matters and how they can make healthy choices.
Show them what healthy eating looks like and involve them in shopping by discussing the different food groups.
Eating dinner as a family and modeling good eating habits will go a long way in helping kids to make healthy choices.
