Brainline offers online virtual classes to school learners amid the 21-day lockdown

Distance Education Provider, Brainline, says recent developments around the coronavirus have necessitated the need to open its virtual doors to offer online classes to learners other than its own students. This comes as President Cyril Ramaphosa last night, Monday, 23 March 2020, announced a 21-day lockdown for the country. Chief Executive Officer, Coleen Cronje, says education remains an important building block, especially in these situations.

‘Extreme circumstances call for extreme measures. As a virtual school we have been fortunate not to be affected by the recent school closures and have decided to give learners, other than our own, the opportunity not to miss out on their education. We know that parents are extremely concerned about the impact that the school closure, as well as the lockdown, will have on their children’s education and we have decided to assist,’ she says.

Brainline will offer an array of options to learners to ensure that they do not miss out on valuable academic time. Cronje says home education has been made available via an online platform which is easy and adaptable.

‘Learners who are not Brainline students will be able to join our weekly online classes. We will also offer a monthly payment option with a flexible cancellation option for those learners who would like to make use of our services while they cannot attend their own schools,’ Cronje explains.

Cronje says Brainline will be able to accommodate Grade 12 learners who are currently receiving education from the Department of Basic Education.

‘We have received approval from the IEB that these Grade 12 students are able to switch to Brainline for the second semester, provided that they fulfil the requirements for their portfolios in each subject. Our qualified teachers are also on standby to assist these students to allow for a smooth transition. Grade 12’s who feel up the challenge, are invited to apply for registration’

Cronje says through Brainline Cloud School, learners are able to work at their own pace and from the comfort of their own homes.

‘Virtual classes allow learners to work through courses at the pace most comfortable to them. Online classes foster students that are able to take charge of their education and allow them the freedom to complete schoolwork on a schedule that fits their busy lives. So, whether your child is an athlete, performing artist, volunteer, or works, school is always open, and they can access their courses when they have the time.’

Brainline is IEB recognised, which means that learners follow the South African National Curriculum (similar to the curriculum offered in South African schools) resulting in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) upon successful completion of their matric exams.
